Gastländer 2020
„East meets West“ heißt es auch 2020 bei den Gastländern des Festivals:
Wir legen unseren Fokus einerseits auf das Vereinigte Königreich. Das Mutterland der Popmusik verabschiedet sich derzeit aus der Europäischen Union. Welche Folgen wird der Brexit für die Musikindustrie haben? Das und vieles mehr werden wir versuchen im Rahmen der diesjährigen Conference zu erörtern.
Im Rahmen unseres Fokus auf UK werden wir auch die Festivals Wide Days, Focus Wales und The Great Escape bei der Conference zu Gast haben, um einerseits ihre Events besser kennen zu lernen, aber auch um ihre Sicht und Arbeitsansätze bei den Themen Corona und Brexit zu hören.
Die Ukraine ist das zweite Fokusland: Das nach Russland zweitgrößte Land Europas hat fast fünf mal so viele EinwohnerInnen wie Österreich, 2014 den Song Contest für sich entscheiden können und eine aufstrebende Musikszene. Bereits vor ein paar wenigen Jahren wurden wir auf die umtriebige und unglaublich vielseitige Musikszene in der Ukraine aufmerksam, was an einigen sehr feinen Bookings für das Waves Festival zu sehen war.
Vorläufiger Höhepunkt war 2019 ein erster Showcase, unter anderen mit Alyona Alyona (im Bild rechts) inklusive Networking-Reception des noch sehr jungen aber hochmotivierten Music Export Ukraine am Waves. Beides zusammen hat uns bewogen die Ukraine als Gastland für 2020 einzuladen.
